Turning data into action, impact, and insight

Jhpiego supports evidence-based decision-making and program effectiveness across all initiatives. From the design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems and global indicator guidance to the assessment of progress towards objectives, we ensure clarity and promote the utilization of findings by stakeholders at every level. Rigorous implementation research, evaluation, and continuous learning, coupled with our commitment to accountability, allows us to share valuable insights with the global health and development community. Additionally, we collaborate with local partners and stakeholders to reinforce systems and practices that power data-driven action, impact, and insight and build capacity for rigorous research and learning.

OUR APPROACHES

Monitoring and Evaluation System Strengthening

  • We engage stakeholders and partners to develop theories of change, results frameworks, and indicators for systematic tracking of progress toward strategic goals. Data systems are designed and implemented to accommodate various types of data and include support for data visualization tools such as dashboards for real-time monitoring. Monitoring is integrated with continuous improvement and adaptive management practices.

Data Analysis and Use

  • We support stakeholders and programs to establish systems and practices that ensure data quality and facilitate use of data for improving performance and making decisions. We couple use of routine monitoring data with complementary methods like pulse polls, after-action reviews, and most significant change, to foster continuous learning and stronger program outcomes. We strengthen the capacity for data analysis and use practical tools to ensure that data informs action, linking data analysis to routine management activities and policy decisions.

Implementation Research

  • We conduct high quality, demand-driven, implementation research that integrates rigorous scientific methods with deep understanding of practical realities. Our research focuses on understanding the feasibility, acceptability, effectiveness, and scalability of models of care, whether a new product or innovation is being introduced or a proven model is being scaled. Research embedded within programs aims to answer the right questions, at the right time, in the right place with the necessary rigor to inform decisions of health care providers, health systems actors, and policy makers.

Program Evaluation and Learning

  • We ensure that health program implementation and cost data is organized, analyzed, and visualized to facilitate the evaluation of intervention effectiveness, efficiency and overall impact. We design and implement comprehensive learning agendas, aligning evaluation and learning methods with adaptive management strategies to ensure ongoing refinement of approaches and interventions as necessary.

Empowering Health Information Officers: Joseph’s Journey to Improving Malaria Care in Ghana

In the fight against malaria, accurate reporting of data is essential to improve the quality of care. Accurate data helps keep shelves stocked with lifesaving drugs and supplies so that health workers have what they need to care for their clients.

This short course on writing journal manuscripts is a high-level overview for health professionals that was developed based on Jhpiego's Resource Package for Journal Manuscript Development. The Resource Package includes a process and tools that Jhpiego has evolved over more than 10 years to support health professionals on the pathway to publication.
