Helping to protect the health of women, babies and the most vulnerable.

Selected Achievements

  • In partnership with the Ministry of Health, Jhpiego developed a national strategy for the first-ever training of thousands of health workers in basic emergency obstetric and newborn care. This included a standardized learning resource package that has already been used to train more than 250 master mentors.

  • In collaboration with Myanmar Medical Council and Myanmar Nurse and Midwife Council, Jhpiego introduced Myanmar’s first accreditation systems for basic medical education and nursing and midwifery education programs, ensuring that future health professionals are well-trained and qualified.

  • Jhpiego partnered with the Ministry of Health to develop national standards and tools to improve the quality of maternal health care at hospitals and health centers. We also implemented quality improvement approaches at health facilities in townships and sub-township levels to strengthen services for families in rural communities.

  • Jhpiego works directly with communities to ensure safer childbirth experiences. Through targeted support and collaboration with local health systems, we help poor and vulnerable pregnant women access facility-based deliveries at public health centers. This includes transportation assistance, birth preparedness education, and community mobilization efforts that empower families to seek timely, skilled care. By reducing barriers and strengthening linkages between communities and health facilities, Jhpiego is helping more mothers deliver safely and more newborns thrive.
