Jhpiego established the first institutionally sound approaches to compassionate and quality health care in Mozambique. Through early initiatives such as model maternity centers and modern hospital wards, we assisted the Ministry of Health in implementing a standards-based management and recognition approach. This effort has paved the way for lasting quality assurance in various health services, including tuberculosis infection control and care for survivors of violence.
We partner with the Mozambique Defense Armed Forces to implement a comprehensive HIV prevention, care, and treatment strategy for soldiers, their families, and nearby civilian communities.
Jhpiego builds on existing efforts to expand access to health education, testing, and services that reduce HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. We advocate for extension of HIV prevention services beyond military bases to include families and civilians living nearby.
We support the delivery of safe male circumcision, HIV testing, and counseling for military personnel and surrounding communities and facilitate widespread access to condoms to promote safer sexual practices.
Jhpiego assists the Mozambique Defense Armed Forces in disseminating targeted messages to raise awareness and prevent sexual, physical, and psychological violence.
