Democratic Republic of the
Congo

Bonjour!

Preventing unnecessary deaths in resource-limited settings since 2017.

Selected Achievements

  • Jhpiego worked with the Ministry of Public Health to strengthen emergency management systems, including preparedness and response to epidemics and natural disasters. Over 540 trained experts are now part of rapid response teams to raise awareness about Mpox prevention.

  • We have raised awareness among more than 10 million people and strengthened the health system by training more than 3,500 health workers and providing continuous online training to an additional 1,400 health workers. In total, we have reached over 11 million people across all 26 provinces of the DRC.

  • More than 5,000 young people have accessed reproductive health and family planning information through the Collaborative 2.0 JeunessePlus app. In Kinshasa, approximately 500 women chose the SAYANA Press injectable contraceptive after engaging with female family planning champions.

  • Trained and equipped health workers have effectively responded to more than 9,500 cases of postpartum hemorrhage during childbirth in the Kongo Central province.

Current Projects

Reducing Maternal Mortality

  • Funded by Unitaid and in collaboration with PATH and FIGO, the AMPLI-PPHI project aims to reduce maternal mortality from postpartum hemorrhage by accelerating the use of effective medication for the prevention and treatment in the Kongo Central Province of the DRC.

Continued Education for Health Workers

  • Through the Global Reach II project, Jhpiego designs and implements high-quality solutions across key health provider education programs. This includes the systematic integration of modules on the prevention, screening, treatment, and management of HIV/AIDS into the pre-service and in-service training curricula for health learners. These approaches aim to sustainably strengthen provider competencies, ensure quality care, and improve public health outcomes in all intervention areas.

  • Through Global Reach II, we also help strengthen collaboration, learning, and sharing of best practices with stakeholders through an online platform called ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes).

Preventing the Spread of Disease

  • We work with the Ministry of Health to help them create strategic plans for their global health security programs. This is in alignment with their goal to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. We also work with the country’s emergency operations center to contribute to the prevention of Mpox nationally.

Video Highlights

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, ensuring that every woman, every child, and every family has equitable access to quality health care is both an urgent need and a collective responsibility. Our projects are driven by a clear vision: universal health coverage where one’s place of residence in our vast country no longer determines access to quality health care. We are committed to placing human dignity at the heart of all our actions
