Selected Achievements

  • With Jhpiego support, more than 178,000 Chadians learned their HIV status and more than 55,000 men received voluntary medical male circumcision services for HIV prevention. In addition, more than 55,000 individuals have been newly enrolled in pre-exposure prophylaxis against HIV.

  • From 2011 to 2021, more than 6.8 million cases of malaria were confirmed by testing and then treated using artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT), as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).

  • Over ten years, Jhpiego administered more than 559,000 insecticide-treated bed nets and more than 799,000 rapid diagnostic tests. More than 5 million patients received ACT at project sites. In addition, 598 providers were trained, more than 54,000 health education sessions about malaria were held and more than 694,000 people were reached with information on malaria through these sessions.

  • With Jhpiego’s support, Chad updated its policies regarding intermittent preventive treatment of malaria in pregnancy to align with the World Health Organization’s guidance, encouraging earlier and more frequent dosing of sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine to prevent malaria exposure/infection during pregnancy.

Our Expertise

Strengthening HIV Prevention and Treatment

Jhpiego focuses on strengthening the managerial and administrative capacities of members of the Sectoral Committee for the Fight Against AIDS (CSLS/MDN).

  • We support the operationalization of both existing and new HIV care sites in infirmaries and military garrison hospitals across targeted provinces to enhance the quality of services provided to clients.

  • We monitor patients online within the HIV care cohort of these areas using the Tracker module of DHIS2. To ensure effective implementation, we built the capacity and skills of implementation actors through initial training, ongoing on-site training, coaching missions, and supervision of activities. We also validate data at HIV care sites as well as during data compilation and validation workshops, enabling these sites to take ownership of their data.

  • We support the implementation of community interventions by training Community Health Workers (CHWs) on essential topics and assist in managing HIV-related supplies within care facilities. Finally, we provide guidance and advice on strategies for conducting viral load testing among HIV patients.

Improving Quality of Care

Jhpiego is dedicated to enhancing healthcare quality by training core teams from delegations and districts on quality improvement initiatives, as well as training Quality System Assessment (QSA) teams from health facilities, including hospitals and health centers.

  • We focus on strengthening the capacity of delegation, district, and health center teams to conduct on-site support visits effectively. Additionally, we facilitate experience-sharing sessions at the district level to encourage collaboration and learning among teams.

  • In targeted provinces, we build the capacity of community health workers and provide technical support for the development of the National Quality Improvement Policy and Strategy. Finally, we ensure the monitoring of community health worker activities to assess implementation and effectiveness.
