Baltimore, MD – Jhpiego is thrilled to announce the annual Laughter is the Best Medicine Gala on March 18, 2026, at the Beverly Hills Hotel. This year's gala promises an evening filled with inspiration, connection, and celebration by honoring changemakers who are making a significant impact on maternal and newborn health in their communities and beyond.
This year's honorees include acclaimed journalist and advocate Soledad O’Brien, philanthropy leader Brad Raymond, Mielle Organics Founders Monique and Melvin Rodriguez, and former President of the Pfizer Foundation Caroline Roan. Each honoree exemplifies dedication to empowering women, children, and families through their work and advocacy.

The Laughter is the Best Medicine Gala is an annual event that unites leaders, partners, supporters, and friends to raise crucial funds that support Jhpiego’s innovative health solutions, enabling women and families to thrive globally. Hosted by comedian, Tom Papa, guests will enjoy an engaging program that includes stories from around the world, showcasing the life-changing impact of Jhpiego’s programs. Jhpiego will also honor the legacy of Dr. Leslie Mancuso, Jhpiego’s President and CEO, who is retiring after 25 years of leadership.
“We are excited to bring together our community for a night of inspiration and purpose,” said Howie Mandel, Chair of Jhpiego’s International Advisory Board. “This gala not only celebrates individuals who are doing remarkable work in health and advocacy but also raises vital unrestricted funds to support Jhpiego’s mission to improve global health outcomes.”
The gala has a long history of recognizing influential figures, including previous honorees Ciara, Serena and Shawn Levy, Molly Sims and Scott Stuber, Zoe Saldana Perego and Marco Perego Saldana, Ann and Jim Gianopulos, Kristen Bell, and many more who have made significant contributions toward health and wellness around the world.
